Joop Mijsbergen

Born and raised in Bergen op Zoom, Joop Mijsbergen studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts, both in Antwerp, Belgium (1953-1960). His works are mostly in figurative style in oil, acrylic and watercolour paint and cover subjects ranging from portraits to landscape and imaginative presentation of biblical and mythological stories.

Mijsbergen worked as a teacher in several art-related vocational trainings and schools, and has for years been the driving force behind the Etcetera Foundation, a foundation to promote art in general and visual arts in particular, in the Bergen op Zoom area. For his personal rendered service to society, Joop Mijsbergen has been decorated as a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau (Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau).

Joop Mijsbergen has participated in dozens of art exhibitions in The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, France and Switzerland. He is still active and works daily in his studio in Bergen op Zoom.
